Curated Tour of Remembering – Arpita Singh’s First Institutional Solo Exhibition Outside India
The WAAW World community is invited to an exclusive, curated tour of Remembering, the landmark exhibition of celebrated Indian artist Arpita Singh at Serpentine North. This is Singh’sfirst institutional solo exhibition outside of India, featuring a powerful selection of works from a prolific career spanning over six decades.
Developed in close collaboration with the artist, Remembering offers a rare and intimate glimpse into Singh’s world, one shaped by personal memory, cultural heritage, and the shifting tides of history. Drawing inspiration from Bengali folk art, Indian storytelling traditions, and everyday life, her deeply expressive paintings reflect both inner emotional states and broader social upheavals.
The exhibition traces Singh’s evolution from the 1960s to the present day, showcasing large-scale oil paintings alongside more delicate watercolours and ink drawings. Her richly layered compositions explore the intersections of Surrealism, figuration, and abstraction, while also drawing influence from Indian Court painting. Singh’s work resists linear narratives, instead embracing complexity, contradiction, and emotional depth.
Remembering is curated by Tamsin Hong, Exhibitions Curator, and Liz Stumpf, Assistant Exhibitions Curator at Serpentine.
This private tour offers a unique opportunity for WAAW World members to engage with the work of a pioneering artist whose deeply personal practice speaks to global issues of identity, memory, and resilience.
