Comptoir des Mines Galerie is proud to present Latifa, A Pioneer Too!, a landmark solo exhibition celebrating the groundbreaking work of Moroccan artist Latifa Toujani.

Running from 24 May to 15 July 2025, the exhibition pays tribute to Toujani’s multifaceted practice through a selection of her major research projects spanning from the 1970s to the early 2000s. It is both a retrospective and a re-examination, a chance to reconsider the evolution of art in Morocco through a distinctly female lens.

Toujani’s photographic work, begun in the late 1970s, is particularly striking for its intimacy and bravery, capturing spiritual practices and brotherhoods rarely documented with such sensitivity. Her investigations into textile and engraving, created between 1974 and 1990, reveal an artist deeply engaged with both material tradition and cultural critique.

Notably, Toujani was the only Moroccan woman artist to participate in the Baghdad Biennial in 1974, and her iconic works now reside in some of the most prestigious collections in Morocco and across the Arab world.

Latifa, A Pioneer Too! is more than an exhibition – it is a journey through the intersections of Arab artistic modernity, shaped by the poets, politics, and cultural shifts that defined the 1970s and 1980s, from Rabat to Baghdad, Beirut to Damascus.

Join us in honoring a trailblazer whose voice helped shape the artistic narrative of an entire region.
