Women As Creators: A conversation about art, life, and history
Discover the new art hang curated by Canopy Collections at Home House, one of London’s most iconic members clubs. The evening will start with welcome cocktails and a tour of the art display, followed by a conversation between Louise Chignac, Marina Ruiz-Colomer and Annya Sand.
Reflecting on WAAW’s goal of advancing gender equality in the art world, the conversation will highlight how female artists throughout art history have found ways to keep creating in the face of societal barriers. From Artemisia Gentileschi in the 17th century to contemporary artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Jenny Saville and Isabella Ducrot, the talk will celebrate female artists’ assiduous dedication to their practices.
Louise Chignac is the Co-Founder and Director of Canopy Collections. As an art dealer who promotes the idea of living with art, she has long been advocating for more transparency within the art world, and increasing access for a new generation of art buyers. She is also the first woman curator of Home House. From their new HQ in Bloomsbury, Canopy Collections hosts a dynamic programme of events and exhibitions by living artists.
Marina Ruiz Colomer is the Head of the Post-War and Contemporary Art Department for the UK and Europe at Bonhams. She joined Bonham’s from Sotheby’s, where she spent twelve years in the Contemporary Art Department, heading a variety of sales during her tenure. Promoting and focusing on women artists has always been at the core of her interests; she co-headed the (Women) Artists sale at Sotheby’s, co-curated Traumata: Bourgeois/Kusama at S|2 Gallery and is a member of AWITA.
Annya Sand is a contemporary multimedia artist and the founder of Women Artists’ Art Week World (WAAW World), a global social impact initiative committed to promoting gender equality and equal opportunities within the art world. Known for her distinctive abstract style, Annya is a third-generation artist who carries forward a rich family tradition of artistic expression.
WAAW invites you to discover an exciting new curatorial partnership between Canopy Collections and Home House. This collaboration includes a rotating series of exhibitions, as well as curated acquisitions on behalf of the club’s permanent collection. Currently on view in The Bison Bar are a selection of abstract paintings by emerging artist Lara Davies whose miniature coastal scenes float across wallpaper-inspired stripes. These works are in dialogue with the bold figuration of Charlotte Beaudry, whose works draw on imagery from everyday life and pop culture.
